Just 4 months after launching our Reverse Recycling Station, Eastlands is proud to announce a major milestone: 1 million containers returned!

Thanks to the incredible support from our community, Eastlands has become one of the fastest sites in Tasmania to reach this milestone. With a daily average of nearly 10K containers, the pace continues to grow.

Here’s a snapshot of what’s being returned:

  • 62% aluminium cans
  • 21% PET plastic bottles
  • 15% glass bottles

Every container returned helps keep Tasmania’s streets, beaches and natural landscapes clean, protecting the environment we all love.

How to Use the Reverse Recycling Station

Recycling with us is simple, rewarding, and helps the environment. Here’s how:

Step 1: Collect Eligible Drink Containers

Most drink containers between 150mL and 3L are eligible for a refund. This includes:

  • Aluminium cans
  • Plastic bottles
  • Glass bottles
  • Cartons (under 1L)
  • Steel bottles/cans

Tip: Look for the “10c refund” mark on the label as a guide.

Step 2: Return Your Containers

Bring your containers to the Reverse Recycling Station and insert them one by one. The machine will scan and sort them automatically.

Step 3: Get Your Refund or Make a Donation

For every eligible container, you’ll receive a 10-cent refund. You can:

  • Keep the refund for yourself
  • Donate it to a local charity or community group via the machine’s donation options

♻️ Where to Find It

The Reverse Recycling Station is located on the Rosny Road side of the Eastlands car park, near BWS.

This initiative is part of Tasmania’s Recycle Rewards container refund scheme, in partnership with TOMRA and TasRecycle. For more details, visit the Recycle Rewards website.
