Security guard Stuart is a big fan of Arnie, Rocky and all the retailers at Eastlands. He’s worked here for 10 years and loves the banter, the vibe and the convenience.

Stuart joined the Securecorp team in 2002 because he wanted a change: “I was looking for a new challenge, something different. Previously I had done security patrols all over Hobart, and prior to that I was working for the roadways in Burnie – laying the asphalt and driving the roller.”

He enjoys being part of the security team, patrolling the centre, and keeping everyone safe.

“There’s lots of friendly people and great vibes. I love spending my time here. It’s close to home and central to everything.”

Getting to know the customers and showing them where things are is a favourite part of his job. “I enjoy meeting people. I’m always here for them,” says Stuart.

He also loves interacting with the retailers: “Everyone is so friendly and helpful. There is a lot of banter. It’s one big family –everyone pulls together to get the job done.”

Stuart likes to keep fit. His hobbies are weight training and cardio, so he has no problem tackling the physical parts of his job – he walks about 19,000 steps every day. “My nickname is Arnie. He is my idol. I used to wear an Arnold Schwarzenegger t-shirt when I was at Tassal. The name has stuck.”

Stuart is also a regular Eastlands customer: “I spend a lot of money on DVDs and Pop Vinyl at JB Hi-Fi – my latest purchases are John Wick, Batman and Rocky Balboa. My family comes to BigW and Kmart for our regular shopping. My wife goes one way, I go another and sometimes we won’t see each other for over an hour and a half!”

He’s also loves Rhyme Street Café, especially for the way they cook their bacon and eggs.
