This World Environment Day, Eastlands is proud to support the fight against plastic pollution with the launch of a brand-new Reverse Vending Machine (RVM) —right here at the centre.

This new self-service station makes it easier than ever for our community to recycle eligible drink containers and earn a 10-cent refund for each one returned.

How to Use the Reverse Recycling Station

Step 1: Collect Eligible Drink Containers
Most drink containers between 150mL and 3L are eligible for a refund. This includes containers made from:

  • Aluminium cans
  • Plastic bottles
  • Glass bottles
  • Cartons (under 1L)
  • Steel bottles/cans

✅ Tip: Look for the 10c refund mark on the back of your empty drink container as a general guide.

Step 2: Return Your Containers
Bring your containers to the Reverse Recycling Station and insert them into the machine one by one. The machine will scan and sort them automatically.

Step 3: Get Your Refund or Make a Donation
For every eligible container, you’ll receive a 10-cent refund. You can choose to:

  • Keep the refund for yourself
  • Donate it to a local charity or community group via the machine’s donation options

♻️ Where to Find It

You’ll find the Reverse Recycling Station conveniently located on the Rosny Road side of the Eastlands car park, near BWS.

The initiative is part of Tasmania's new container refund scheme, Recycle Rewards, in partnership with TOMRA and TasRecycle. For more information on the program, visit the Recycle Rewards website.
